Battle of Newton Society

The original reenactment of the Battle of Newton took place in 2001. The first battle was  sponsored by City of Newton, the Newton Ruritan Club and the 15th Alabama, Co E, reenactors. On Saturday, the downtown area was closed off for a re-enactment of the downtown skirmish around the gazebo.

Dignitaries from the surrounding areas were invited to the event. A wreath was placed at the Confederate monument. After the skirmish, all activities moved to John Hutto Park.

Re-enactments were faithfully carried out for eight years. In 2009,  the Sons of Confederate Veterans Camp 911 based in Enterprise joined in and gave their support. In 2012, organizations and individuals  joined in and formed the Battle of Newton Committee to aid in putting on this annual event.

In 2013 it was decided to further organize the group into the The Battle of Newton Society.
Today individuals and supporting organizations may become members.
